چکیده

Using the nearest-neighbour STDP rule with metaplasticity we show that to evoke homosynaptic LTD or depotentiation in the spiking model of granule cell is not easy. This is in accordance with number of experimental studies. On the other hand, heterosynaptic LTD which accompanies homosynaptic LTP is induced readily both in the model as well as in experiments. We offer possible explanation of this discrepancy based on STDP, metaplasticity and spontaneous activity. We suggest conditions under which it would be possible to induce homosynaptic LTD and depotentiation if our assumptions were correct.

Computational Modeling of Long-term Depression of Synaptic Weights: Insights from Stdp, Metaplasticity and Spontaneous Activity

Using the STDP rule with metaplasticity, we show that to evoke longterm depression (LTD) or depotentiation of synaptic weights in the spiking model of granule cell is not easy. This is in accordance with a number of experimental studies. On the other hand, heterosynaptic LTD which accompanies homosynaptic long-term potentiation (LTP) is induced readily both in the model as well as in experiment...

A Voltage-Based STDP Rule Combined with Fast BCM-Like Metaplasticity Accounts for LTP and Concurrent “Heterosynaptic” LTD in the Dentate Gyrus In Vivo

Long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD) are widely accepted to be synaptic mechanisms involved in learning and memory. It remains uncertain, however, which particular activity rules are utilized by hippocampal neurons to induce LTP and LTD in behaving animals. Recent experiments in the dentate gyrus of freely moving rats revealed an unexpected pattern of LTP and LTD from hig...

Computational models of homeostatic synaptic and dendritic plasticity in the hippocampus

I present our recent work on homeostatic aspects of (1) synaptic and (2) dendritic plasticity: (1) We used biologically realistic models of dentate granule cells to simulate LTP and heterosynaptic LTD observed in the hippocampal dentate gyrus. LTP and LTD could be accounted for by a combination of a spike-timingdependent plasticity (STDP) mechanism and a fast homeostatic Bienenstock-Cooper-Munr...

Spike timing dependent plasticity: mechanisms, significance, and controversies

Long-term modification of synaptic strength is one of the basic mechanisms of memory formation and activity-dependent refinement of neural circuits. This idea was purposed by Hebb to provide a basis for the formation of a cell assembly. Repetitive correlated activity of pre-synaptic and post-synaptic neurons can induce long-lasting synaptic strength modification, the direction and extent of whi...

Correction: A Voltage-Based STDP Rule Combined with Fast BCM-Like Metaplasticity Accounts for LTP and Concurrent "Heterosynaptic" LTD in the Dentate Gyrus In Vivo

There is an error within the main text (Methods; 2nd paragraph) of this manuscript (p. 20 in the PDF). The sentences read as follows: “. . .tau is the integration period. . .” and “We used the value of tau = 60s for all the simulations. . .” They should read: “. . .tau is the integration time constant. . .” and “We used the value of tau = 12s for all the simulations. . .” The following sentence...
